Senior Pastor Bob Ortega -Pastor Bob grew up in Southern California during the 1950s and 1960s in an environment of alcohol and domestic abuse. Though he attended Catholic school for twelve years, he lacked a true personal relationship with God and sought fulfillment through partying, gambling and money. He married his wife, Mary, and they continued in the same lifestyle, seeking happiness through worldly possessions and experiences, but still found themselves empty. After years of searching and witnessing the loss of friends due to drugs, alcohol and failed marriages, a co-worker began to share with Bob. Bob’s mother and several cousins began praying and inviting him to family Bible studies and fellowship gatherings. Bob and Mary finally gave in to an invitation to a church service at Calvary Chapel West Covina, CA, which is now Calvary Chapel Golden Springs, on June 3, 1979 and they both accepted Christ as their Savior.
Their lives were changed miraculously and they rapidly grew through the study of God’s Word, prayer and fellowship at Calvary Chapel. They became involved in the Children’s Ministry together, and then Bob in Prison and Jail ministry while Mary continued in the Children’s and Missions ministries. They hosted fellowships and prayer meetings in their home where they began to pray for New Mexico as Pastor Raul Ries was involved in an outreach to Albuquerque, NM. In 1982, by the leading of the Holy Spirit, they moved with their 3 daughters then ages 10, 5 and 3 to Las Cruces, NM, to help a Calvary Chapel fellowship held in a mobile home park. Bob was asked to pastor the group which is now Calvary Chapel Las Cruces located in the Downtown Mall. Bob and Mary have been blessed with 3 grandchildren, and their four adult daughters are all involved in ministry in California, Nevada and Albuquerque, NM.
